The Jasemi is a closed species that lives on Prova.
Description
Jasemi are bipedal avians. They have prehensile feathers on the ends of their wings, feet with three toes each ending in a talon, and elongated beaks. Their bones are extremely light and brittle, and they are capable of flying short distances.
Adults range from 3 to 4 feet tall, and the species exhibits sexual dimorphism. Male Jasemi have long beaks, bright colors, and tall expressive crests; female Jasemi are smaller than males, with shorter beaks and duller colors. A young Jasemi is born from an egg with dull feathers; they can feed themselves and walk, but it takes them 4 months before they can fly.
Behavior
A peaceful prey species, they have thriving villages all across the rainforests of Prova. Their predators include the Kagzar and Vostruo.
Combat
Pacifists to an extreme, Jasemi have strict social and religious rules against fighting their predators, even in life-or-death situations. They have the capability to hold and use primitive weapons, but do not manufacture or use them. When self-defense is absolutely necessary, they will kick with their talons.
Powers
Jasemi have the power of dream walking, the ability to walk in and out of other people's dreams. They have little control over the target or length; only the most well-trained members of the species can manipulate these variables.
Diet
The species is herbivorous, with a focus on fruits, nuts, and seeds. In times of famine, they have been known to eat insects and small mammals.
Culture
Jasemi have immensely vivid imaginations, and their culture thrives on the arts. The first building made in a new community is usually a library, and it is there that they collect their massive expanses of religious texts and fantasy literature.
The species has also shown the capacity for domestication. Many villages have prosperous berry farms. More rarely, there have been sightings of tamed Vostruo, which usually reside at the entrance of a village and act as its guardian.
Jasemi are deeply devoted members of the Lunan religion.
